Swing Into Spring! Tips for Building a Profitable Portfolio
Spring is on its way and traditionally spring has...always been a time to clean things up and prepare for a new season. Let's use this time to clean out our stock portfolios, get rid of the stocks that are not performing as we would like and add some new stocks that have a better chance of increasing our returns.
The Northern Lights and Heartland Chapters are joining together to present a series of classes to help you review your portfolio in order to get better returns going forward. We are going to begin by talking about how to analyze the stocks that are currently in our portfolio, and then discuss when to clean out the "losers" in our portfolio, and finally end with some new stocks to consider for our portfolio.

10:00 AM - Using Value Line to Analyze Your Stocks
Value Line is one of the most widely used tools available to BetterInvesting members to help track their stocks. Value Line's one page summary of a company's financials along with a short analysis is a great place to begin a review of a company. Learn to understand some of the not-so-obvious elements of the Value Line Investment Survey.

11:00 AM - When the Lines Aren't Up, Straight and Parallel
Some of the most widely held stocks in our portfolios are not growth companies but are cyclical companies. These companies require more analysis than a growth company. Retail stores and restaurants are cyclical. Ford, Caterpillar and Deere are three of the most widely held stocks by BetterInvesting members and clubs and these are definitely cyclical companies. We will use Caterpillar for our example, and demonstrate how to use the Stock Selection Guide to study a cyclical company.
