Albert Lea Couple Sentenced To Federal Prison Time

A couple from Albert Lea has been sentenced to one year behind bars of a federal prison.  On Tuesday, Travis Allen Cameron, 31, and Heather Ann Cameron, were sentenced in federal court in Minneapolis.  They were sentenced on one count of countefeiting U.S. currency.

The U.S. Department of Justice says the Camerons were involved in a counterfeiting ring that targeted businesses along the Interstate 35 corridor between the Twin Cities and the Iowa state line.

The couple was indicted with six other co-defendants on August 2, 2011.  The Camerons plead guilty to charges in October.

8 People Arrested In Albert Lea, Freeborn County

Last weekend, officers of the Albert Lea Police Department and Deputies with the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office partnered with probation officers from the Department of Corrections and Freeborn County Court Services to perform home visit checks on subjects on probation.

These checks resulted in 8 people being taken into custody.  All 8 suspects were charged in Freeborn County Court this week.

Albert Lea Police tell ABC 6 NEWS that they believe this is part of a larger problem of increased drug activity in Albert Lea and Freeborn County.

Of the people taken into custody, 6 of these resulted in new charges of possession of methamphetamine, with 5 subjects being arrested at a single residence in Freeborn County.

Snow Plow Accident Slows Traffic On I-90 Near Hayward

An accident on Monday afternoon slowed traffic along Interstate 90 in Freeborn County.  The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the roads were icy at the time of the crash.

Authorities say a 20 year old man from Albert Lea was hurt in the accident, though his injuries are not life threatening.

That 20 year old, Dakota Lee, lost control of his truck and rear-ended a plow driven by a 57 year old man from Owatonna, according to the patrol.

It happened around 4:45pm on Monday near mile marker 162.  That is located near Hayward.

$11,000 Worth Of Steak And Seafood Stolen From Truck In Albert Lea

The Albert Lea Police Department reports that someone stole $11,000 worth of steak and seafood from the back of a truck.  Police say the truck was parked in the parking lot of the Knight's Inn. 

Authorities say the call came in just before 9pm Thursday.

4 People Arrested In Albert Lea After High Speed Chase

Four people were arrested in Albert Lea late Wednesday night.  Two of those suspects were booked in the Freeborn County Jail.

Albert Lea Police say an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle near Collins Auto Repair on Main Street East at approximately 11:49PM.

When the officer investigated further, the vehicle sped off reaching speeds up to 89 MPH.  They drove eastbound on Main St. E., then south of Main St. E.

Hollandale Man Pleads Not Guilty To Bigamy Charge

A Hollandale man faces a rare charge in Freeborn County. He's been charged for being married to two women at the same time. The Freeborn County Attorney says this is an unusual case in Minnesota.

It's something long time Freeborn County Attorney Craig Nelson has never dealt with before. “I have practiced law here in Freeborn County for 35 years and I can't remember ever dealing with a person or case where a person had been charged with bigamy,” said Nelson.

In Freeborn County court Monday afternoon, Wayne Demay plead not guilty to a felony charge of bigamy.

"Based upon the information that was presented to me in the investigation that was done in this case, it appeared that we had an appropriate case to charge, and so I charged it,” said Nelson.

According to the criminal complaint, Demay's first wife told the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office that she married Wayne Demay in 2003.

27 Year Old Killed In Collision Near Manchester

A semi truck hauling hogs collided with a car in Freeborn County during very foggy conditions Wednesday morning.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the accident happened at 10:15am along Highway 13, north of Manchester.

Felicity A. Mathieu, 27, was the driver of the car, according to the patrol.  They also report that she was not wearing her seatbelt.  She was driving the 2004 Pontiac Grand Am that collided with the semi truck.  Family members tell us she was from Hartland.

Authorities say only 2 people were involved in 2 different vehicles.  The State Patrol says driver of the semi truck, a 41 year old man from Kasson, wasn't hurt.
