The LEARN program is a 12-week behavioral weight management program, that addresses the role lifestyle, exercise, attitude, relationships and nutrition play in healthy weight management. Components of behavioral weight management will also be addressed: self-monitoring, problem solving, goal setting and changing thought patterns related to emotional eating and stress management.

11-Year-old Recovers After Being Struck by Lightning

11-Year-old Recovers After Being Struck by Lightning

An 11-year-old boy from Pine Island is recovering after being struck by lightning this weekend.

Family members tell us that 11-year-old Gunnar Starks is still in critical condition but is becoming stable.

Doctors decided to lower his body temperature in an effort to put less strain on his heart and brain.

Officials tell us that Gunnar was fishing on Lake Hendricks in Riceville Iowa when he and another boy were struck by lightning.

The other boy was treated for minor injuries.

Emergency officials say this type of thing is fairly common.

One in four people struck by lightning were on or near open water.

"You may see lightning 20-30 miles away or hear thunder a long ways away but it can jump. It can be right in your backyard in the next second. People just need to be very careful,” Director of Olmsted County Emergency Management Kevin Torgerson explains.
