Actors Wanted: Happy Days Auditions

Albert Lea Community Theatre (ACT) announces auditions will be held May 22 and 23 from 7−10 p.m., for the summer musical Happy Days at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway in Albert Lea. 

Ten performances of this new musical based on the popular television series starring Albert Lea native Marion Ross are scheduled for July 10−20. Ross will also return to her hometown as an honored guest during the production.

There are 17 roles to cast in the show, including 14 energetic teenagers who enjoy singing and dancing. Popular characters in the musical include “The Fonz,” Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham, Richie Cunningham, Ralph Malph, Potsie, Chachi, Joanie and many others. James Dean and Elvis Presley also make cameo appearances.

Freeborn County Road Construction

Drivers can expect single-lane traffic on Highway 65 between the Iowa border and Interstate 35 beginning Tuesday, May 7, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Crews will be resurfacing the road and doing culvert repairs.Flaggers will control traffic throughout the project, which is scheduled to continue through mid- June, weather permitting.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.

The Public has spoken!  The Albert Lea - Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce asked people to vote for this year’s 3rd of July parade theme. There were nearly 500. The winning theme is “Red, White and Blue Old Time Traditions”. Parade applications are available online at www.albertlea.org under the events page.

Give Your Thoughts On Albert Lea's "Bump-Out" Plan

Based on public input, the Broadway Avenue Streetscape design team is advancing the intersection bump-out configurations that were presented at public meetings.

City public works staff  have marked the outline of the bump-outs at the Broadway Avenue/William Street intersection with cones so that business owners, drivers and pedestrians can better visualize the area that they will encompass.

Broadway Ave Streetscape Open House Monday Night

The City of Albert Lea is holding a public meeting on Monday night.

Architectural firm, Bolton & Menk, will present the updated design concepts for the Broadway Avenue Streetscape in further detail. The goal of this meeting is to continue to get input and comments from the public on the preliminary design concepts.

Estimated project costs based on the design concepts developed to date will be provided at the meeting.

The format of this meeting will be similar to the previous public meetings - a short presentation at 5:30 p.m. followed by the opportunity to meet one-on-one.

Volunteering 48 Weeks in 48 States

     An Illinois man spent a few days in Rochester as part of an ambitious goal, volunteering in 48 states in 48 weeks.

      Monday Charlie Sedig was at the United Way of Olmsted county fixing toys and sorting out boxes for the running start for school program.

     He left his college dreams to pursue this journey after a mission trip in Peru.

     He says he'll do a wide variety of volunteer work and hopes to one day run his own non-profit.

     "My plan would be to start a non-profit that engages high school age and colleges age students and traveling around the world and helping others. The results would be creating more volunteers in this world."

     Charlie arrived in Rochester after spending a week in Wisconsin.

     He relies on donations to continue his journey.

Albert Lea Public Library To Celebrate Dr. Seuss

The Albert Lea Public Library invites kids and families to join them for fun to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday on Thursday, March 1.

The celebration will include crafts, games and fun!  It will be held from 2-4pm.

The event is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
