Leave It On The Lawn

Leave It On The Lawn

The City of Albert Lea wants to remind you to leave it on the lawn.  They say mowing grass clippings into the street is a violation of City ordinances.

The grass clippings can land in storm sewers which drain into the lakes and can end up as algae blooms.

City hall requests that you sweep up any clippings that land in the street or gutter.

Also a reminder that if you let the grass grow too tall, you could be ticketed by police.

Cougar Sighting

A bicycle ride he takes everyday was anything but an everyday experience for Warren Lenz of Albert Lea. While on his usual Monday morning bike ride through Myre-Big Island State Park in Freeborn County, Lenz spotted what he is sure was a cougar. Lenz tells ABC 6 News that while riding on a grass trail he saw the cougar, or mountain lion, crouched in the weeds. After eyeballing each other for about a minute, the cougar got up and took off with it's distinctive tail pointed skyward. Lenz said he wasn't really afraid of the big cat and decided to continue on his ride before trying to notify park rangers. Lenz said he wasn't concerned because "they're here to go after deer, not people."
